T3 Groups
Purpose
For multiple user to be able to collaborate on an analysis we offer the possibility to create dedicated analysis group folders on the SE in
/store/t3groups/
. The quota for these folders is determined by the number of participating users and their available quota on the SE. The users themselves can decide what groups they would like to create and use; one user can of course participate in multiple groups.
Procedures
Current Membership Status
An overview of group membership is available on a separate
page.
Create a new Group
Any user can request the creation of a group with at least two members; for this please fill the following form and send its content as an e-mail with subject
group creation request and send it to
cms-tier3@lists.psi.ch. The admins will then ask the physics group responsible to approve the request before creating the group.
Group name:
Local physics group on the Tier-3:
Initial users:
Some notes:
- Your new group name e.g.
bstomumu
, susy
, ...
- Your Local physics group is the physics group with which you new group is associated (see PhysicsGroupsOverview)
- List of initial users should be a comma-separated list of user names
Adding a new Member
Any member of the group (or the responsible for the associated physics group) can request the addition of a new member by sending an e-mail to
cms-tier3@lists.psi.ch with subject line
group membership change; please state the name of the group and the user name of the account to be added. All group members (including the new one) will then be informed about the change.
Removing an existing Member
Any member can request their own removal from the group (and the responsible for the associated physics group can request the removal of any group member) by sending an e-mail to
cms-tier3@lists.psi.ch with subject line
group membership change; please state the name of the group and the user name of the account to be removed. The last member of a group can only be removed if the group folder is completely empty; the group will cease to exist at that moment and the group folder is removed by the admin.
Migration
Currently, there are are few
unofficial group folders within the
/store/user/
area of the SE. We propose to transfer those files to the group area at a given date and create the groups that are still active. The following table is not yet final; if we missed one of the group folders feel free to add it to the table and add your user name to the groups you would like to be added.
Technical Points
Due to a bug in dCache it is unclear at the moment whether we can offer real privilege separation for the analysis groups.
