13. 12. 2012 SMARTd configuration change requested after an Hitachi 1TB swap
The 1TB Hitachi disks that we inherited from CSCS have a side effect concerning the SMARTd daemon configuration ;
for instance since I've replace this disk
c5t3d0
the SMART daemon was reporting that it could not anymore inquire that disk;

to enable again the SMART monitoring of an Hitachi 1TB disk an administrator has to:
- edit the file
/opt/csw/etc/smartd.conf
and add a 'p0' like in this example : /dev/rdsk/c5t3d0p0 -a -d sat -m root,cms-tier3-alerts@lists.psi.ch
- stop and restart the SMART daemon:
kill -9 `pgrep smartd` && nohup /opt/smartmontools/sbin/smartd --configfile=/opt/csw/etc/smartd.conf -q never -d &
