Major Downtime March 14/15 for T3 upgrades

Dear T3 users

Major upgrades to the storage and compute infrastructure of the T3 require a complete exchange of the current network switching. This operation and bringing new resources online will require at least one day, so we are planning for a 2 days downtime. Since End of Febuary seems to be a bad time for many of our users due to the Moriond conference, we picked the first convenient March date: Wed/Thu 14/15 March 2012.

At the end of this upgrade we will have a new storage with ca. 270 TB usable space, and we will begin with retiring some of the old SUN based hardware that is out of warranty and error prone. We are still waiting for the Delivery of 11 new compute nodes from DALCO (will offer 176 Intel Sandybridge cores), but if everything works out correctly, these resources should also become available at that point in time.
