Added new WNs t3wn[30-40]
Summary
Introduced additional 176 job slots, each ~1.2 faster than the previous 160 slots.
Details
We spent the latest month installing, configuring and testing the new 11 Intel servers type
S2600JF each equipped with 48GB RAM and 2 recent "Sandy Bridge" Intel Xeon E5-2670 CPUs.
These new servers have 16 physical cores, so this gives us 11 * 16 = 176 additional job slots.
What you need to know to use these servers:
- New nodes and old nodes are served by the same queues (
short.q
, all.q
, long.q
as before), but free slots on the new fast nodes will be filled preferentially.
- Choose the correct queue according to the job's walltime on the older, slower nodes. Use an approximate scale factor of
1.2
for conversion (e.g., a job that takes 80min
on the new node t3wn35
may take ~96min
on the older nodes, so such jobs are too long for the short.q
and you should send it to all.q
). This conversion holds true, if your jobs are just CPU bound.
