CMS Tier-3 News Item

New WNs Grid middleware to be tested before 1st June.

Summary

A temporary batch queue short.q.validation has been created to validate the new WNs Grid middleware.

Details

The Grid middleware used inside the WNs to support your jobs is getting outdated and we have to migrate to the current release; to test this migration and to avoid sudden failures of your analysis jobs we have installed the current release of the Grid middleware in the WNs and configured a temporary batch queue short.q.validation to use this release for its jobs.

All the T3 users are kindly invited to send some significant jobs to short.q.validation before 1st June and - if these jobs should fail - notify us on the usual channel cms-tier3 AT lists.psi.ch providing us a detailed report to troubleshoot the errors (we are also interested in building a comprehensive test-suite; so if you have jobs that you think are very different from everything else, please provide us the details).

To avoid to affect the performances of your daily analyses only 1 CPU core from each of the oldest WN has been assigned to short.q.validation - Tot. 20 - and each user will be able to run a max of 4 concurrent jobs.

Before 1st June silence from your side will mean that everything ran fine and based on this feedback we'll configure the 3 production queues short.q, all.q, long.q to use the current release.

thanks for your kind cooperation,
the T3 Admins Team.
